On February 3rd, The McIntyre Group was pleased to partner with the PRSA Westchester/Fairfield Chapter and join the conversation on “The Communications Job Market: What Do Today’s Employers Want?” The goal of the panel was to educate PR and Communications job seekers on what employers are looking for as well as the best practices of social media and traditional networking to secure future employment. The event took place at Columbus Park Trattoria and began with dinner, drinks and networking.
Jaime Laufer, Senior Staffing Manager at The McIntyre Group, sat on the panel with Mary Beth Schroeder, Senior Director, Talent Development and Internal Communications for Affinion Group. Jaime provided insight on what her clients, from both the in-house and agency side, are looking for when they review resumes and writing samples, screen and interview. Mary Beth spoke specifically to what her organization looks for when bringing on new talent. Together they were able to provide a two pronged approach to job searching specifically targeted in the communications space.
Jaime also urged the PR and Communications professionals to treat their job search just as they would a client project. Job seekers should conduct research, develop a strategy, create measurable objectives and monitor the outcome. Jaime also provided suggestions on interviewing, applying online, job searching through social media connections, and traditional networking.
